Dodge Intrepid ES
| | Model of the car: | Dodge Intrepid ES | | | General comments: | Where do I begin. First year we owned the car, we had to have the transmission repaired. Also within that first year, something malfunctioned with the blinker switch and while driving home after dark, I had no lowbeam headlights...only day-time driving lights and high beam...cops loved that (I've replaced it 2x in 5yrs - $260 each time for the part only). The front end is a constant source of irritation. At least twice a year we have to replace the stabalizer linkage kits & tie rod ends. I understand that these are interchangable with those of a Ford taurus. I feel soooo secure in that little fact. We have replaced the climat control unit recently ($200 from salvage yard in ON).We have the car serviced every 5000-6000 kms. This car has every comfort, best sound system Chrysler has to offer, power windows, dual climat control, AC (currently doesn't work), it will even tell me what direction I'm going in, what the temp is outside and how much gas I have left in the tank. However, with all of these computerized options come very expensive headaches when it comes time to repair. In 5 years of owning the car (finally paid for) we have spent over $3500 in repairs. This doesn't include what was done under the extended warranty we purchased. Overall, this is a very comfortable family vehicle, good fuel economy and has been reliable to date (3.0L, V6, 198,500kms and counting). Overall not a bad car, but I won't own another one. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | - front end problems (described above)
- with almost 200,000kms, starting to hear mega engine noise (typical Dodge knock)
- transducer needs replacing, causes AC fan to run constantly
- low resale value | | | Previous car: | Chevy Celebrity (don't get me started on that lemon) |
